The operation of the Daejeon Pavilion stems from a commitment made after Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo attended last year’s CES. At that time, he pledged to expand the participation of local companies in CES and create more opportunities for them to enter global markets.
Located within Eureka Park, the startup innovation zone of CES, the Daejeon Pavilion is a 70-pyeong (approximately 2300 sq ft) space featuring 20 company booths and a dedicated promotional zone branded as “Daejeon, Korea’s Science City.”
The opening ceremony was attended by Jang Ho-jong, Deputy Mayor for Economic and Science Affairs, Chung Yong-rae, Mayor of Yuseong District, Lee Jin-sook, President of Chungnam National University, Daehee Park, Director of the Daejeon Center for Creative Economy & Innovation, and representatives from the 20 participating companies, who celebrated the launch of the Daejeon Pavilion.
At CES 2024, more than 500 Korean companies are participating. Among them, companies from Daejeon include 20 firms in the Daejeon Pavilion, 12 companies in the KAIST Pavilion, 4 companies in the Hanbat National University Pavilion, and 6 companies exhibiting individually in areas such as Central Hall – totaling 42 Daejeon-based companies.
Notably, 10 companies from Daejeon received CES 2024 Innovation Awards, including:
- D&C Biotechnology
- Nanoelectronics Co., Ltd.
- Khan Filter
- Lifeon Korea
- Panecia
- TOTT
- Antler Reality
- Algocare
- Seadronix
- Iruda Planet
This achievement highlights the growing global recognition of Daejeon’s technology ecosystem and its innovative startup community.
During the CES period, Daejeon City will not only operate the Daejeon Pavilion but also actively promote Daejeon’s advanced scientific and technological capabilities, while providing broad support for attracting domestic and foreign investment.
Deputy Mayor Jang Ho-jong, attending CES as his first overseas official engagement since taking office, plans to hold meetings with venture capital firms and other investors to assess the global expansion potential of Daejeon-based startups and discuss concrete support measures. He will also visit regional company booths located in Eureka Park and other pavilion areas, as well as various exhibition halls, to examine key trends in Daejeon’s core strategic industries and technologies that can be applied to future urban life.
Deputy Mayor Jang stated:
“Daejeon’s first-ever independent pavilion and the participation of 20 companies at this year’s CES is a highly meaningful milestone, as it raises the status of Daejeon as Korea’s leading science city and creates a valuable gateway for our companies to enter global markets. Daejeon is a city equipped with world-class research capabilities and infrastructure. We will do our utmost to build a ‘world-class economic city, Daejeon’ by advancing a model of scientific and business convergence.”
